Bonfils/Vitalant Blood Drive: It’s time to schedule appointments for Bethel’s annual blood drive! Bonfils is now called Vitalant. Bethel’s drive will be Sunday, August 18th from 8:00am until 12:00. Backpack & School Supply Collection: It's that time of the year again and kids are headed back to school. You can be a big part of putting smiles on foster & refugee children's faces by providing much needed backpacks & school supplies. Look for the yellow school bus in the narthex area along with a supply list and bring in your donations! The deadline to drop off your supplies is Sunday, August 11. Join Bethel’s Choir! The Bethel Adult Choir begins fall practices on Thursday, August 22, at 6:30pm, in the Bethel Sanctuary. Come and share your voice and music gifts as we sing praise to God and minister to His people. All are welcome to attend. The choir sings every week at the 8:00 traditional service. Contact Pastor Dan for more information (


Summer Fellowships: Join us this summer on Sundays for Food & Fellowship each week after the 9:15 AM service beginning at approximately 10:30 AM. During the summer, various groups at Bethel have been sponsoring/providing a food & fellowship time. The summer schedule for fellowship in August is as follows: August 11—Stephen Ministry; August 18—All Church (congregants: bring something to share); August 25—Kidtricity Team.


Lawn Mowing at Bethel: Bethel needs volunteers to help mow the lawn through the end of the summer. There is a lawn mowing sign-up sheet on a clip board in the narthex. Mercy’s Gate Fundraiser: Bethel’s Gallery Director & recognized Fine Art Photographer, Eric Wulfsberg, has been cleaning out his “photographer’s closet” and he has donated a number of mounted & unmounted photographs to Bethel to raise money for Bethel’s outreach Ministry to Mercy’s Gate. Mercy’s Gate is a Colorado Springs Food Bank & Rent Assistance Ministry that helps people avoid homelessness. The images will be on display for purchase in the Bethel library during the fellowship time after the 9:15 am Sunday services on August 18th & August 25th.  The images are available for a donation to Bethel’s Mercy’s Gate Outreach Ministry and suggested donations range from $10 for unmounted small prints to $60 for mounted & prize-winning images with all the proceeds going to Mercy’s Gate. Many of the pictures are award winning photographs from local and regional Art & Photography Competitions. All you need to do is matt & frame the pictures and you’re sure to have a photograph you’ll love to display in your home or office. If you have any questions, contact Eric Wulfsberg.


SAVE the Date! This year’s Family Promise Walk is Sunday, September 8th. Gather at Grace & St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 1pm (601 N. Tejon St.) This year's walkers will go in groups with a Family Promise board member and learn more information about Family Promise's mission & work in Colorado Springs. 2019 Men’s Annual Fly-Fishing Retreat at Rainbow Trail: Attention Bethel men! Experience a weekend of faith renewal, fellowship & fly fishing! Enjoy hearty meals, worship, & camaraderie around a campfire & be renewed spiritually, mentally & physically. The Arkansas River is only minutes from Rainbow Trail and offers world class fly fishing! Ark Anglers, a local guide company, will give a presentation on current river conditions at the beginning of the weekend. Fishermen from novice to expert are encouraged to attend this Bethel fall tradition. Rental equipment and professional guide services are available. The retreat date is September 19-22, 2019. THE COMFORT MAKERSThe Comfort Makers meet the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday each month at 9:00 AM in the Christ Center. Always welcome are quilters, assistants and anyone interested in joining us. When spring cleaning & finding extra sheets, please donate them to the Comfort Makers.  Any size is welcome! The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief annually. GRIEFSHARE GROUP This group will start a new session in the fall beginning September 11 at 10:00 AM in the Abundant Life room at Bethel. The GriefShare group is opened to anyone and everyone, members of Bethel or non-members who are experiencing grief, whether it be family, friend or acquaintance. MICROBREW CREW The Microbrew Crew meets two nights each month on the 1st Saturday and the 2nd Monday. The Microbrew Crew meets two nights each month on the 1st Saturday and the 2nd Monday. STRETCH & STRENGTH FOR LADIESJoin Beth Nickodemus for an hour of Pilates, yoga inspired stretching, and isometrics. This group meets each Thursday in the Christ Center from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. It’s beginner friendly and there is no charge. Questions? Contact Beth Nickodemus.  


VARIETY DANCE CLASSThis dance class includes Ballroom, Line Dance, 2-Step, and Partner Pattern Dancing depending on interest. The group meets each Saturday beginning at 4:00 PM in the Christ Center. Questions? Please contact Dave or Cheryl Bingham.


Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on Mar. 16—Apr. 3, 2020. Official brochures are available in the narthex sign up area and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration now. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. Please direct all questions to Pastor John and let him know of your interest in the trip. A signup sheet is located in the narthex sign up area. We have 3 cabins left.





Blu-ray & DVD’s are needed! IHN has moved to a Blu-ray/DVD player and they are in need of family videos. We would love the old Disney classics that kids love. If you can help, please see Stephany Green or Sharon Roberts.  


VDC (Via de Cristo): In August, VDC will be having a Grand Ultreya out at Laforet Conference & Retreat Center in the Black Forrest on August 24 & 25 from 9am to 12pm. The cost for the August event is $50. VDC’s Weekend #44 is February 20-24, 2020 at Laforet Conference Center. Please pray about being on a team or sponsoring a pilgrim during weekend #44. Under the Sea at Kidtricity: Bethel’s high energy, totally fun children’s ministry program will be back on September 8th at 9:15 am in the Christ Center. Our theme for this year is: Kidtricity Under the Sea!  Get ready for deep sea fun with sharks, crabs and a whole assortment of sea creatures!  Many of the Kidtricity favorites will be back including Twinkle, Bernie, Platy and the one and only Grumpy Grampy!  Kidtricity is for ages three-fifth grade.  Registration for Kidtricity will begin at the end of this month.


New Creations Bible Study: The New Creations Bible Study adult Sunday School class will resume Sunday, September 8th with a study of Proverbs. This will be based on the Life Guide Study series. We will also schedule a onetime per month video study based on current topics. Youth Nights & Youth Summer Schedule: Youth nights occur during the school year each Sunday evening from 5:45—7:30 PM at Bethel and all youth in the 6th - 12th grade are welcome to attend. On August 11, 18 & 25 Youth Night is back in session in the evenings from 5:45-7:30p. Below is a list of additional upcoming youth activities through August. “SEEN” -  A High School Ministry: Come join our 9-12th grade girls small group that meets the last Sunday of every month for a time of fellowship and conversation about topics concerning being a Christ-like teenager in today’s culture. COLLEGE KIDS CORRESPONDENCE: CKC is Bethel’s ministry opportunity created to support our out-of-town college students. It is a weekly “card shower” and each week a name and address of our Bethel college “Student of the Week” will be provided. Simply send these Bethel family members “best wishes” or “keep up the good work” words of encouragement, add a stamp and drop it in the mail. Please let Carol Vogeney know if you would like to add your student to the list for this coming fall. CKC is currently on summer break.

RUTH Bible Study— RUTH Bible Study meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings of the month during the school year from 9:30-11:00 AM in the Library. Currently this group is on break for the summer and will begin again Tuesday, September 10th. WEB (Women Exploring the Bible)—WEB Bible study is working on a video/book study by Karen Ehman named "Listen, Love, Repeat". WEB meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 9-11 AM in Bethel's Library. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Karen Scharp.


Men’s Ministry Breakfast—Calling all men! Our next Men’s Ministry Breakfast will be Saturday, September 14 in the Christ Center from 7:45am until 9:30am. We will meet for food & fellowship and begin a new study based on the Old Testament book of Daniel. Come and join us and see what Daniel can teach us about how to live a godly life during times of tragedy and in a godless society. All Bethel men & their sons are welcome to attend. Contact Pastor Dan at, if you would like more information.

Monument Bible Study— An adult Bible study meets Monday evenings at 6:30 PM during the school year in the Monument area at the home of Wayne & Theresa Guthals. Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Evening Women’s Class—BSF classes meet Monday evenings at 6:55 PM at Bethel during the school year. They have had their last meeting and are currently on summer break. L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Everyday) Bible Study— L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Everyday) Bible Study—This group just began a new study called "Sermon on the Mount" by Jen Wilkin. It is a 9 session DVD/study with a workbook and looks at the Sermon on the Mount in its totality which is rich in Christ's teachings (Beatitudes, Lord's Prayer, and many parables). We welcome all women who want to grow in their faith and understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. L.I.F.E. Bible Study meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM.
