Holy Week is the most important week in the Church year! It is a time when we celebrate in a special way the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We remember his actions, reflect on his messages, and recommit to living as his disciples in the world today. Please join us and worship during this very special week.

Activities at Bethel during Inclement Weather: Bethel sent out an “All Church” email about afternoon & evening activity cancellations on April 10. The cancellation was also listed on most of the local news channel ‘ticker’ lines. If you are not receiving ‘all church’ emails from Bethel and would like to receive them, please contact the church office to be placed in the email group (719-570-9800 or office@bethellutheran.net).
 
Easter Lily Dedications (Deadline = Sunday, April 14): Share your joy in Jesus’ resurrection by helping to purchase an Easter Lily to decorate the sanctuary on Easter Sunday. Lilies may be dedicated “To the Glory of God”, “In Honor of [someone]”, or “In Memory of [someone]”. Plants are limited & available on a first come, first served basis after the Easter Sunday services on April 21. Donations of $10 may be placed in the offering plate or paid online (note your name & “Lilies” with any payment). Please sign up on the tear-off slip on page 7 of the Bethel Blessings noting your dedication or email your dedication to the church office at office@bethellutheran.net by April 14.
 
Easter Breakfast & Easter Egg Hunt: The youth of Bethel would like to invite Bethel members & guests to attend their annual Pancake Breakfast on Easter Sunday, April 21 from 7:00—10:15 AM. We look forward to serving you! Donations at the breakfast will go towards the 2019 youth mission trip expenses. Also, Bethel’s Children’s Ministry would like to invite all children to their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, April 21 at 10:00 AM. Candy donations for the Easter eggs can be placed in the donation bin at Kidtricity on Sunday morning or by the sign up “clip board” in the Welcome Center area upstairs through April 14.
 
Easter Sunday—Rejoice! Join us at Bethel for Easter Sunday services on April 21 at 8:00 & 10:30 AM as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There will be no Saturday evening service on April 20.
 
New Member Classes: Bethel’s New Member classes take place on Sundays, April 14 & 28 during the 9:15am Sunday School hour in Pastor John’s office. Every new member is asked to attend one of these classes and the final orientation which will take place at the New Member Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, May 4 at 6:30pm in the Christ Center. The joining weekend will be at whichever service you normally attend the weekend of May 4 & 5. Please indicate your desire to attend a class by filling out the back flap of the Bethel Blessings (page 7) and placing it in the offering plate or by contacting the church office: 719-570-9800 or office@bethellutheran.net.
 
A to Z Vegetable Gardening Class at Bethel: On Tuesday, April 16 from 7:00-8:30 PM in the Christ Center, Larry Stebbins will present this 90 minute class and go over tips for having a successful vegetable garden in the Pikes Peak region. Soil preparation, planting timelines, carefully selected varieties, companion planting, intensive-succession planting, season protection & harvesting will be discussed—not recommended for children under 12. The cost will be $2 per person to help cover material & fees. There is limited space as this class is being offered to the Old Farm Community Garden members and members of Bethel Lutheran Church. Spring Cleanup Day! Bethel’s spring church cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, starting at 8:00 AM. Please join us for light work around the church. There will be leaf raking, window cleaning, sweeping, and a variety of easy, small tasks for adults & children. This is a great Mentor-Confirmand project time too. Coffee, donuts, and OJ will be served. Please call Steve Helmreich with any questions or requests of work to be done.
 
New Program for Parents from the Youth Ministry Team: Once a month on the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:00-11:00 AM, Bethel’s youth ministry will begin a yearlong, 2-hour monthly PEP Rally (Parenting, Equipping, and Processing Rally) to serve the parents of Bethel (or Bethel visitors). The plan is to watch one expert interview where the speakers are respected and well know. The speakers range from pastors, researchers, doctors, culture experts, educators, artists and more. Parents with kids of all ages are welcome to attend! Upcoming dates for PEP are May 4, June 1, July 6, Aug 3, Sep 7, Oct 5, Nov 2 and Dec 7.
 
Believe Preaching Series: The Believe Sermon Series will resume on the weekend of May 4 & 5. In May, we will be looking at chapter 25 of the Believe book. A Sunday morning Adult Sunday School class on the Believe book occurs during this series on Sunday mornings at 9:15am in the Faith Forum.

BOOK REVIEW GROUP—This group meets at Bethel on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM. April’s book is “The Sparrow Sisters” by Ellen Herrick. If you have questions about obtaining a book, please contact Evelyn Hjeldness. Happy Reading!
 
BUNCO GROUP—Bunco meets the 2nd Friday of each month at 7:00 PM in Bethel’s Library. Join this group for fellowship, laughter & fun! Questions? Contact Becky Bruns.
 
THE COMFORT MAKERS—The Comfort Makers meet the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday each month at 9:00 AM in the Christ Center. Always welcome are quilters, assistants and anyone interested in joining us. When spring cleaning & finding extra sheets, please donate them to the Comfort Makers.  Any size is welcome! The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief annually. Connections Group—This group is targeted to singles and couples in their 50’s and 60’s though is not exclusive. It is a fellowship and discussion group of mutual support, laughter, food and fun. DINING OUT— The Dining Out group meets on a Monday night near the end of each month at a local restaurant. The next dining out will be at the Mason Jar on Monday, April 22 at 6:00 PM. The address is 2925 Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80904. Contact Dave or Cheryl Bingham with questions.
 
GRIEFSHARE GROUP—Grief can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Healing from grief is not an easy thing to do. It is a long and sometimes painful process. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, don't go through the grieving process alone. Join this group each Wednesday morning at 9:30am in the Abundant Life room. MICROBREW CREW— The Microbrew Crew meets two nights each month on the 1st Saturday and the 2nd Monday. Contact Dave Bingham with questions or to get on this group’s emailing list.
 
VARIETY DANCE CLASS—This dance class includes Ballroom, Line Dance, 2-Step, and Partner Pattern Dancing depending on interest. The group meets each Saturday beginning at 4:00 PM in the Christ Center. Questions? Please contact Dave or Cheryl Bingham.
 
Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on Mar. 16—Apr. 3, 2020. It seems like a long way off, but since this is an international cruise open to the world, we can only promote it for a few months in 2019 and then the cruise line takes over and our group cabins are no longer available. Official brochures are available in the narthex sign up area and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration right now. Since there has been a lot of interest in this trip, you are encouraged to sign up soon if you are interested, so as to hold a spot on the trip. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. Please direct all questions to Pastor John and let him know of your interest in the trip. A signup sheet is located in the narthex sign up area. We have 3 cabins left. A single male needs a single male cabin mate, please contact Pastor John.

INREACH & OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
 
$$LENTEN NOISY CHANGE OFFERING$$ - We're almost there! Our Noisy Change offering will benefit Heart In Home, the most recent program of Family Promise. As Kat Lilley said at the Hearts Luncheon, “The best way to solve family homelessness is to PREVENT it.” The average cost of keeping a family in their home is $868. Help keep a family in their home by donating through the services on Easter Sunday, April 21. The Air Force Needs YOU! The Prater family hosts a cadet at the Air Force Academy and his parents are helping with the inaugural DMV State Night at the US Air Force Academy on April 24, 2019. This event is designed to inspire pride and sharing between the cadets about their home states of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.  The evening will include a meal and speakers. The group is looking for people to provide cookies and bars for dessert along with people to help with the evening event (set up, serving, etc.) If you would like to help out, please contact April Prater. Food Panty Needs for Mercy’s Gate: Critical Needs—the following is a list of items Mercy’s Gate needs to bring food and non-food stock up to desired levels...Canned Fruit, Jelly, Boxed Baking Items, Hot/cold Cereal, Toilet paper, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Shampoo/Conditioner. If you have questions or need assistance with food pantry donations, please contact Molly Smith at 719-217-5745. Non-perishable food donations for Mercy’s Gate may be brought to Bethel and dropped off near the main doors.

Kidtricity! All children age 3 to fifth grade are invited to join Kidtricity each Sunday from 9:15—10:15 AM in the Christ Center. This year’s Kidtricity program is a God-focused program on the great country of Australia and is called: Kidtricity Down Under! Bethel’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt: On Easter Sunday, April 21st beginning at 10:00 AM in front of the Faith Forum, all children are invited to hunt down some eggs with Bethel’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Younger children (0-5) will hunt in the Faith Forum and older children will hunt outside (weather permitting). There is no cost to participate! Help us fill the eggs by donating candy to the collection boxes at Kidtricity or in the narthex area (individually wrapped candy or small toys that fit within a plastic egg will be accepted through April 14).
 
Kidtricity Easter Program: On Sunday, April 28th at the 10:30 AM service, join Bethel’s Kidtricity team and Kidtricity kids as we present a special Easter program in place of the sermon.

June 17-20, 9AM-11:30 AM each day (no VBS on Friday)
Ages: Age 4-Entering 4th Grade (younger kids welcome, but need to have a parent or guardian accompany them). Cost: $10 per child, $25 maximum per family. BLOC CAFÉ—A High School Ministry: Attend this group each Sunday morning where high school youths in grades 9-12 get to learn and discuss relevant topics related to their faith in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. This group meets between services in the High School room from 9:15-10:15 AM. Free coffee and/or drink are available. Join us on April 14 between services as we work on writing support letters for our Summer Mission Trip! (Not meeting Easter Sunday, April 21)
 
Youth Night: Youth nights occur during the school year each Sunday evening normally from 5:45—7:30 PM at Bethel and all youth in the 6th - 12th grade are welcome to attend. High School Leadership Team: If you are in high school and eager to grow in your influence & leadership, consider joining Bethel’s Youth Leadership Team called SALT (Student Action Leadership Team). Several youth meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 5:00-6:15 PM for intentional leadership development time centered on Christ and His servant-hood. Dinner will be provided. Pray about this & connect with Sedra, if you are interested in joining.
 
“SEEN” -  A High School Ministry: Come join our 9-12th grade girls small group that meets the last Sunday of every month for a time of fellowship and conversation about topics concerning being a Christ-like teenager in today’s culture. COLLEGE KIDS CORRESPONDENCE: CKC is Bethel’s ministry opportunity created to support our out-of-town college students. It is a weekly “card shower” and each week a name and address of our Bethel college “Student of the Week” will be provided. Simply send these Bethel family members “best wishes” or “keep up the good work” words of encouragement, add a stamp and drop it in the mail. Please confirm that your student is on the college list by contacting Carol Vogeney.

RUTH Bible Study—RUTH Bible Study meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 AM in the Library (you can come early to socialize if you would like). We are studying Haggi, Zechariah, and Malachi by Stephen M. WEST (Women Earnestly Seeking Truth)— We are working on a new Life Guide study titled, “Women & Identity”. The study follows Biblical themes as well as the journeys of women showing the way to embrace God’s strength and wisdom to live whole lives. WEB (Women Exploring the Bible)—WEB Bible study is working on a video/book study by Karen Ehman named "Listen, Love, Repeat". WEB meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 9-11 AM in Bethel's Library. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Karen Scharp.
 
Men’s Ministry Breakfast— Calling all men!  Our next Men’s Ministry breakfast will be on May 18th. This group meets once a month on a Saturday morning in the Christ Center from 7:45am until 9:15am. We meet for food, fellowship, and to discuss our current study. The kitchen crew begins preparing breakfast at 6:30 AM. Evening Groups
Monument Bible Study— Monument Bible Study—An adult Bible study meets most Monday evenings at 6:30 PM throughout the school year in the Monument area at the home of Wayne & Theresa Guthals. Their next meeting will be on Monday, April 29, and then they will take a break. This group is finishing a study titled, “God’s Answers to Life’s Difficult Questions” by Rick Warren. If you are interested in attending this evening Bible study, please contact Theresa Guthals.
 
Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Evening Women’s Class—BSF classes meet Monday evenings at 6:55 PM at Bethel. This group’s study title this year is “People of the Promised Land, Part I” - this study will cover the timeline from Joshua to Solomon. If you have questions, please email BSF contact and main leader Heather Watson at BSFatCOS.EW@gmail.com for more information. This class ends on May 6.
 
L.I.F.E. Bible Study: Ladies, please join us as we study "Psalms, Prayers of the Heart". We learn how the Psalms show us how to relate to God through prayer and to respond to God in praise. This group is ideal for those who cannot meet during the day and have limited time to prepare. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 7:00-8:30 pm at Bethel. Questions? Call or see Joan Skoog or Susi Hengel.
