WORSHIP

Welcome Center Host - Welcome members and visitors, providing general information and direction.

Lay Reader - Read lessons for worship service. Assists with communion distribution.

Altar/Communion preparation - Care for the altar and paraments. Prepare for communion and baptisms. Wash communion ware and linen.

Liferafts - Take and serve communion to members who have limited mobility outside of their homes.

Communion Assistant - Assist pastors in distribution of Holy Communion (bread and wine).

Cantor - Assist pastors in singing part of the liturgy.

Nursery - Assist the Nursery attendant in the care of children 3 years old and under during a worship service or special event.

Worship Assistants Coordinator - Prior to worship, check for their availability. Check-in service assistants prior to worship. One-month commitment.

Drama - participate in drama presentations.

Preparing Sanctuary for Holidays - Help decorate the sanctuary on a Saturday morning for Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Reformation Sunday and change of the church seasons. Help take down decorations. Six times per year.

Passover Celebration - Set up and/or clean up for the Seder meal. Once a year.

Bake Communion Bread - Prepare the bread for communion using a recipe that is supplied.

MUSIC

Choir - Adult choir sings twice a month and presents the Cantata at Christmas. Practice on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary.

Special Music - Occasionally performing during worship by singing or playing an instrument.

Pianist/Organist - Play for services, special events, Sunday school opening, or as accompaniment for adult or youth choir.

Worship Team - Play guitar/piano and/or sing at blended worship services. Practice one evening a week,
7:30 p.m. at church.

Joyful Noise - Children?s choir, performs periodically, rehearses between services.

SUPPORT

Counter - Serve on a team to count offerings following late services (10 times a year).

Office Assistant - Prepare the monthly newsletter mailings, special mailings, and collating the Annual Report.

Photography - Take pictures of special events or of new members.

WITNESS

Make Coffee - Make the coffee prior to the 8:00 a.m. worship service and any additional pots needed prior to
9:30 a.m. worship. (Instruction sheet provided.)

Kitchen Cleanup - Clean up the coffee area in the Gathering Space, place dirty items in dishwasher, and empty and rinse coffee pots following late service. Start dishwasher. Instruction sheet provided.

Towel Washing - Laundry of kitchen towels following the weekly services and activities.

Hospitality - Provide food, cookies, etc., for special events, such as Children?s Christmas program or funerals.

Housing Concerns - Participate in activities supporting local housing concerns, such as programs through Habitat for Humanity, Partners in Housing, or other similar organizations.

Interfaith Hospitality Network - Host homeless families overnight at Bethel. Prepare meals and provide friendship during their stay.

Overnight host - Stay overnight in the church as host to IHN families

Meals for new parents and/or the ill - Provide a meal to new parents or someone recovering from an illness.

Prayer Partners - You are matched up with another member whom you will pray for throughout the year.

Prayer & Concern List - Pray for fellow congregants as concerns are shared with you either by phone or e-mail (please identify which you prefer).

Martin Luther Home Liaison - Responsible for sending Campbell soup labels to Martin Luther Home.

New Member Sponsor - Visit new members to get acquainted and answer questions.

Transportation - Driving a member to church, a special event, or an appointment. Occasional.

General Telephoning/Calling Tree - Call to share information with members about events or conduct a survey.

Funeral Assistance - Help during a funeral at Bethel by setting up, serving, providing food, or cleaning.

Visitation of Hospitalized/and or Shut-ins - Visit someone in the hospital and/or be assigned to a homebound member to visit.

Video delivery to shut-ins - Deliver videos of Sunday services to shut-ins (videos provided)

Visitor Follow-up - Take a magnet to someone who visited Bethel and thank them for coming (6 times a year).

Blood Donor - Give blood or assist in the blood drive (twice a year).

Stephen Minister - A program designed to train and supervise lay people for care-giving ministry. After a 50-hour training program, the SM provides 1 on 1 caring as a listener to people in crisis (2-year commitment).

Easter Pancake Breakfast - Help with Pancake Breakfast by setting up, serving and/or cleaning up.

Outdoor Worship and Picnic - Help with organization and implementation (one time a year).

Lenten Soup Suppers - Provide soup, bread, crackers, or macaroni and cheese for a Wednesday night during the Lenten season. Also help with set up and clean up.

ACTIVITIES

Youth Sponsors - Adults who organize and plan activities for one of the four youth groups.

Gems (55+) - A social group for those over 55 that meets once a month.

Home Alone - a group for widows and widowers of all ages that meets monthly for fellowship.

Supper Club - All ages, groups formed of 3 or 4 couples that meet at individual homes for dinner and fellowship.

20-30 Something Group - A group of singles and couples who meet monthly for fellowship.

Comfort Makers - Quilters or would-be quilters of all ages: no experience necessary. Quilts are assembled and tied, then sent to Lutheran organizations for distribution to those in need.

Sign up at the kiosk for other social activities such as baseball, softball, bowling, annual golf tournament or other special events as they are scheduled.

EDUCATION

Sunday School Teacher - Team-teach or help with youth Sunday School classes. Commitment: Sundays from September to May (not necessarily every Sunday if team-teaching).

Substitute Teacher - Fill in Sunday School class teacher. Commitment: occasional.

Sunday School Crafts - Plan and prepare crafts for Sunday School.

Vacation Bible School Teacher - Lead, plan, teach, or help with one week VBS. Commitment: One week during summer, plus some preparation time.

Adult Education - Attend and participate in various adult learning opportunities.

Getting Connected (Small Group) Ministry - Participate in or start a small group ministry. Commitment: Usually once a week for 5-6 weeks.

Bible Study - Participate in or start a small group Bible study; times and topics vary.

Library - Manage and process books and other materials for the Bethel library. Commitment: About two hours per month; flexible.

Confirmation Mentor - Support and encourage a confirmation student as a one-on-one role model. Commitment: Occasional meetings during two-year period.

Confirmation Coordinator - oversee and administer the 7th and 8th grade program for confirmation in coordination with the pastors.

Children?s Christmas Program - Plan, organize or help with children?s Christmas show. Commitment: About two weeks during the Christmas season.

HIS HOUSE (MAINTENANCE)

Workday Participation - Help with the clean up/fix up of both the outside and inside of the church (twice a year).

Grass Mowing - Assist in mowing either at church or possibly help out a member (occasional).

Snow Removal - Cleaning off the sidewalks and entry to the building prior to evening events (occasional).

Painting - Help with painting the inside of the church (occasional).

Electrical, heating, or plumbing - Help with these areas when the need arises.

General Maintenance - Assist with regular maintenance needs.

Adopt the Kitchen - One month commitment to check kitchen 1/week to be sure it?s neat and orderly. On last weekend of the month, be sure frig is organized and dispose of old, unmarked food.

Adopt the Yard - One week commitment to do general pick up around church, yard, fence, and dumpster area. Includes minor weed pulling.

Plant Watering - Done weekly.  Frequency of service depends upon how many sign up to help.
