TrEC MISSION STATEMENT
Celebrating God's love by providing an opportunity to receive and experience an unconditional relationship with Jesus Christ.
I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. (John 12:24)
What is TrEC?
-
TrEC is a weekend retreat ministry based in and using Lutheran theology and traditions, for teens like you, 15 years old and above.
-
TrEC will give you the chance to strengthen your faith in Christ and learn more about what it means to live His baptismal promise.
-
These weekend celebrations are planned and led by youth, guided by pastors and lay adults, all of whom have participated in a previous TrEC or similar Cursillo-based weekend.
-
TrEC is a dynamic experience in Christian community, empowering you to share the message of God's unconditional love to family, friends, and church youth groups.
-
TrEC will be a milestone in your faith journey.
What Happens on a TrEC?
-
You will hear talks by people your own age, pastors, and adults sharing ways to live out your faith and keep a close relationship with Christ.
-
You build Christian community in small discussion groups, daily worship, and fun activities with everyone on the weekend.
-
You learn how to more actively share your faith with others.
-
You get to sing lots of cool songs!
-
You meet youth from across the state (and beyond?)
-
You get to experience 'mountaineering' for Christ.
-
You will have a 'rendezvous' 2 weeks after your TrEC.
-
You will learn to 'lead' and can serve as a guide on upcoming weekends.
-
Pig out on GORP (God's Own Revealing Presence)!
-
You will greet your fellow TrEC'ers with 'On belay!' and 'Climbing!'
-
You will learn that 'wheat' doesn't just grow in the fields of Nebraska!
Who can attend a Teens of the Rockies Encounter Christ Weekend?
-
Newcomers to TrEC are called alpinistas (Spanish for mountain climber). Alpinistas should be of high school/college age (15-19). Those who are not quite 15 may apply with approval of their pastor or youth director, and attend as space permits.
-
Youth of all denominations are invited to attend the weekend and participate in all activities.
-
Alpinistas, their parents or guardians, and team members are asked to sign the TrEC Code of Conduct prior to the weekend.
-
Possession and/or use of alcohol or other illegal drugs are not allowed on the weekend.
-
Alpinistas are asked to leave electronic devices such as radios, personal CD players, boom boxes, cell phones, pagers, etc. at home.
How do I apply for TrEC?
Applications for TrEC are available from your Pastor, your Youth Director, or on the web at www.ltrec.org
Fill out the application form, get your parent or guardian's signature, have your Pastor or Youth Director sign it, and mail it in with a deposit check of $25. Total cost for the weekend is $50. Scholarship funds are available if the cost would prevent you from coming.
